Mojave Rangers use the ‘Team, Patrol, Troop, Company’ unit structure rather than the military ‘squad, platoon, company’ format. Unit structure is covered in the Syllabus chapter.

Survival Skills for Desert Troopers
The foundational skill to surviving in the desert is to cast aside preconceptions and to attempt to begin to understand its unconquerable, pitiless, and often beautiful vastness, on its own terms. One does not beg the desert for mercy; one adapts to it, or one dies.
The LARP operations at Ft. Edwards require a sufficient understanding of Mojave Desert survival to be able to survive the Mojave Desert long enough to complete your operations.
Mojave Desert awareness and survival are an integral part of the Ranger School program and there will be tests on this material, every day that you’re in the Mojave.

Task Books
Courses are self-paced and Mojave Ranger School uses a Task Book system that allows trainees to get checked-off in various skills as they complete that element of training. The Mojave Ranger School courses were originally designed for teens and are Boy Scout merit badge compatible for over a dozen merit badges.
Each course has an associated Task Book which allows local instructors to sign students off on skill blocks. Most graduates of Army or Marine Basic Training will already be qualified to sign off on most of the Ranger Basic Course.
NCR Army task books, specifically the Desert Trooper’s Manual of Common Tasks (TTP-74-6-TMCT), are official manuals outlining essential warrior skills needed for combat readiness, covering tasks like first aid, weapon proficiency, and land navigation for the Mojave Campaign.
NCR Army task books, officially known as Trooper Training Publications (TTPs), serve as the primary manuals for individual training, evaluation, and certification of critical tasks across various skill levels. The desert trooper task books provide skills checklists that help new, inexperienced troopers as well as seasoned veterans from other parts of the New California Republic learn the skills needed for the Mojave Campaign.
Common Task Manuals (TMCT)
These manuals cover the “Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills” essential for all troopers regardless of their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
- Desert Trooper’s Manual of Common Tasks Warrior Skills Level 1 (TTP-74-6-TMCT): Contains essential individual tasks such as shooting, tactical movement, communication, and survival.
- Desert Trooper’s Manual of Common Tasks Warrior Leader Skills Level 2, 3, and 4 (TTP 76-24-TMCT): Designed for noncommissioned officers (NCOs) and leaders to plan, conduct, and evaluate training for advanced critical tasks.
