Introduction to Team Training at Fort Edwards
Drill 1: Skills Checklists
Goal: Introduce the concepts of Incident management, team roles, intro to airsoft and milsim, intro to emergency comms, incident within an incident training
Training/Drill #1 introduces new troopers to the training process, fort procedures and basic weapon and gear training. Troopers learn to manage themselves and their gear at the fort and on short excursions in the area. Training days are when troopers learn a skill in the classroom and drill days are when the trainees run the drill as a full-speed team exercise.
Training Process
The Ranger Basic Course uses Shoot, Move, Communicate, Survive, Airsoft/Milsim Special Topics and Incident Within an Incident blocks for each monthly training. Trainees usually have 5 lessons in each block for a total of 30 lessons per month.
Training phases are split into 3 parts and focus on 1 part of the phase per month. Trainees can use the Ranger Basic Task Book to sign off on skills at the drills.
Fort Procedures
Fort procedures are based around player safety and accountability and include using the 8 Forms and Incident Within an Incident procedures to make sure that a real injury is properly managed. Proper check in/check out procedures are mandatory.
Basic Weapon and Gear Training
The Ranger Basic Course teaches the 18 Ranger Warrior Skills using the Shoot, Move, Communicate system in a Crawl, Walk, Run format that starts with basic drills at slow speed and then works up to full-speed force-on-force team drills.
Team Role, First Aid and Radio Training
Each monthly training focuses on a specific first aid scenario for the team. Each member of the team has a specific role to play during the incident Team Role training teaches troopers exactly how to fulfill their role in the incident. Training days are when teams learn to manage a new incident or scenario.
Monthly first aid and radio training is for Team Medics and Team RTO’s and covers the specific first aid procedures and radio calls for that month’s drill. Team Medics and RTO’s can take the Medic and RTO training concurrently with the Ranger Basic Course.
