Wasteland News is the media production department for Mojave Ranger School.
Mojave Ranger School is not looking for professional video producers for this project, although you’re welcome to come play.
Mojave Ranger School uses LARP, milsim and gaming to teach real-world first aid, radio and outdoor skills from a 2.5 acre park ranger station in the Mojave Desert.
Wasteland News uses gaming and live-action roleplay to teach real-world video production and outdoor skills to Mojave Rangers game players who want to be the war correspondents and news producers for the project.
Your Mission
The Mojave Territory Park Service is developing a Public Information Officer (PIO) training program, and is recruiting volunteer on-camera talent and camera and sound technicians, no experience necessary.
Once fully operational, Mojave Ranger School will run trainings each weekend based around the immersive, persistent airsoft campaign happening between sponsored milsim teams.
The PIO Team manages the live-stream broadcasts of the Live-Action Fallout: New Vegas game, as it happens, and makes rank-based stipends and bonuses just like the other players.
The PIO Team also produces Mojave Ranger School training films, and ranger-qualified PIO’s can accompany ranger teams on milsim events as war correspondents.
PIO Team training happens during the immersive, Fallout-themed milsim games between Ranger Troop 4 and the raiders, at a ranger station in the Mojave Desert.
PIO Team members are civilian or Ranger volunteers who operate the cameras, send news reports, serve as war correspondents, help make training videos and serve as the on-camera talent in a simulated ‘high-risk’ environment where you might really be a target occasionally. How ‘occasionally’ depends on how well the rangers defend the station.
Free PIO Team Training
The Mojave Ranger Media, LLC PIO Team is its own career track within Mojave Ranger School. The Mojave Ranger School PIO Team works directly under the Command Staff Public Information Officer and assists with media production for the project.
In addition to the standard stipends and bonuses, PIO Team members share a Developer’s Royalty for the classic novels, Field Manuals and other sellable media they help produce.
The PIO Team has 4 departments managed by Lead Producers; Web, Multi-media, Video and Books. Producers are in charge of an article, show episode, comic, catalog or other project. Assistant Producers manage production chores for Producers and Interns are there to learn the system.
Not a Full-Time Job, But Maybe Someday
The Mojave Ranger School is being developed as a paid apprenticeship managed through a game that teaches the Incident Command System (ICS) as well as real-world outdoor and milsim skills.
PIO Team training is National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) compliant for Wildland Fire Public Information Officers, but is not officially accredited in the ‘real-world’.
The rank-based stipends are reimbursement for uniforms, gear and game travel expenses, not salary.
PIO Team members cycle through the training program and learn to develop a local PIO Team to support a Ranger Training Team franchise.
PIO Team members can also join the optional Gun Runners Sales team and make commissions from the Vista de Nada General Store catalog, the wastelands version of Avon.
